Feeling anxious is a natural human response to any danger.
Anxiety often works as a helpful automatic alarm which can alert you from any
alarming situation or stressful event or threatening situation.
Basically, anxiety is such a human emotion which is normally
experienced by everyone in his/her life. For example: young people often become
anxious, or nervous before taking their exam or a adult people may suffer from
anxiety at their professional life or before making an important decision.
Some of the common symptoms of anxiety are:
- Fearful feeling
- Agitation
- Fast heart beat rate
- Palpitations
- Sickness feeling
- Sweating and dry mouth,
- Chest pain and headaches etc.
However, if anyone constantly experiences the anxiety
without any reason or become continuously stressed even if the stress is not
serious enough then these symptoms are indicating that the normal anxiety has
transformed into anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder is a severe mental disorder.
It often causes many mental sufferings which can lead mental and physical
disorder and interrupts a person's ability to lead a normal lifestyle. Constant
and extreme feeling of anxiety and fearful thinking are two common symptoms of anxiety
disorder.
Some other signs of anxiety disorder are, poor
concentration, poor performance of study, irritation, sadness, anger, negative
image of life, sense of guilt, dizziness etc. About 1 person out of 20 persons
suffers from anxiety disorder. People develop anxiety disorder due to having
some unusual circumstances or stressful occurrence in life. These stressful
events can be carried by using environmental factors, social and genetic
factors.
Anxiety disorder has several categories and each category
has different symptoms, different effects or different outcomes. In
addition, treatment procedures of the anxiety disorder could vary according to
the types or classifications. The classifications of anxiety disorder are:
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Panic Disorder
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder
- Specific Phobia
- Agoraphobia
Treatment procedures of anxiety disorder are quite similar
to the treatment procedures of depressive illness. It can be treated medically with mental
health professionals, counseling and behavioral therapy or even with self help
tactics or self treatment. Often treatment can bring very quick and positive
result but of course according to the type of anxiety disorder and its
severity.
However the treatment and diagnosis of anxiety disorder will
depend on the current physical and psychological condition of the individual.
Because some patient with anxiety disorder require hospitalization or
professional treatment even some people could be cured by self help or by
taking general medicine.
